AFAO will always provide appropriate training to care providers/Orphanages enhancing its suitability/appropriateness, enhancing standards, such as those relating to: human resources, conditions of facilities, access to basic services, contact with relatives /family and protection from violence, abuse and exploitation.

Orphanages care for young children, especially those under the age of 3 years, should be provided in family-based model settings within the orphanages. Discourage and prevent the separation of orphaned siblings and in cases where the placement is of an emergency nature or is for a predetermined and very limited duration, with planned family reintegration or other appropriate long-term care solution:

AFAO Orphanages and partners programs Provide assistance and accommodation for any child not in proper custody, any child who is abandoned or any child who is in need of refuge or safety;

  • Trace, re-integrate and provide after care services to children in need of care and protection by working with the government  to generate viable option of care ;
  • Through temporary arrangement and in consultation , some Orphaned and vulnerable children programs and orphanages shall act to reunify lost or abandoned children separated with their parents,  return and or re-integrate a lost or abandoned child to his lawful place of residence;
  • Our programs strengthen the capacities of families taking care of vulnerable children, separated children and children at risk;
  • Promote  emergency response and rescue services to children in need ;
  • Mediate, in so far as permitted in family disputes involving children, and their parents, guardians or other persons who have parental responsibility in respect of the children, and promote family reconciliation under our From street initiative ;This will assist our street children access support to reintegrate
  • We work to provide psychosocial support services for children and their families;
  • Support families and community to be able to care for their children through empowerment programs,
  • work with  Government in placing children in alternative care and in their monitoring and follow-up
  • Raise public awareness on children’s rights and in particular alternative orphanage  care and child care providers
  • Provide alternative care services in country we  operate in accordance with the laws of  each country  policies and regulations
  • Ensure that the child is cared for appropriately and that the care is in his/her best interest
  • Support informal alternative care placements , monitoring and follow-up
  • Provide training and resources to communities to enable children and families grow in healthy environments
  • Promote quality Care and protection of  children in orphanages  environment
  • Strive to assist orphanages Meet the child’s basic needs ,
